Review - "Youth Skits and Materials"

“I just wanted to say thank you for this website. I teach High School Sunday School. It is hard to find good resources. Even at the Christian stores it seems like I don't quite find what I'm looking for.

Your skits are good!

There really aren’t a lot of resources on the web for Sunday School or Youth. I am very excited! Thank you for sharing.”

- Kim V. (Oklahoma)

THE HEAVENLY EXPRESS

Synopsis: Newman finds himself at a train platform and watches as several people attempt to board the Heavenly Express. Some get on and some do not. Elderberry explains to Newman how the price of each ticket was paid for on Calvary.

What fun! This is one of my favorite skits!! Easy to do, and evangelical in nature, this skit is wonderful for VBS or other church gatherings!

This church skit was written with teens in mind, and it is well-received by younger audiences. Everyone gets the idea that you need a ticket to get on board a train. What if you didn't have a ticket?

Newman learns from Elderberry that the tickets are priceless, but they are given away freely; that they are for everyone, but not everyone will accept them; and that Jesus paid the price for all of our tickets at Calvary.

At the end of the skit, Newman accepts Jesus as his Savior, and is given his ticket to board The Heavenly Express!

All Aboard!!

Watch a short Video Clip of the skit here. Thanks to Sasha Terrel Bell and Pastor Robert and Kathy Bell of the Monument of Deliverance Church in Hayti, MO for their permission to use the clip online.

BIRTH OF A SALESMAN

Synopsis: When two men meet in passing in a crowded location, the louder of the two is sold on the Gospel by the other, somewhat reluctant, salesman. See it all happen here in Birth of a Salesman.

I love this one! The two main actors (Frank and Donny D) have all the lines, but any number of other children may be included as they portray the crowd around them. These actors may walk by, jostle around, or even say funny things in passing.

In this church skit written for teens, Frank, the true "salesman", is reserved and somewhat reluctant to talk about what he "sells". But when Donny D, the stereo-typical loud salesman, hears about the free offer of Eternal Life and Forgiveness, he just can't pass up such a great deal!

Aimed at getting us all to think about how we share the Gospel with others, Birth of a Salesman is a great way to turn all of us into better "salesmen" of the Good News.

WAKE UP! THE HARVEST IS READY!

Synopsis: Sarah sees that the Harvest is ready and announces this to the sleepy villagers in the town. They all refuse her invitation to “Wake up!” even though “The Harvest is ready!”,  giving silly excuses.  Finally Sarah prays, asking the Lord to send more workers into His harvest field.  Then, one by one, the villagers show up, ready to go to the harvest.  At the end everyone says, Wake up! The Harvest is ready!

This is a very simple skit that helps us realize that it is important for us to share the Gospel with others, and also helps us confront some of the excuses we make for not doing so. It encourages us to recognize that the fields are ready for harvest, just as Jesus said in John 4:35.

Use this skit to help motivate others in your congregation to reach out with the Gospel to the people around them.

This is an easy skit to translate into other languages, and please feel free to do so.

WATER GUN LESSONS

Synopsis: The Darling Family is working on obedience and perseverance. The girls are frustrated because they have to do the chore of laundry for the family, while the boys engage in water gun play and get all their clothing wet. Learn what the Bible says about obedience in Water Gun Lessons.

A skit by Linda Feller, who is one of our Sunday School Center website visitors. She has kindly agreed to allow us all to use this play for free in our ministries.  We pray it will be a blessing to you and others.

In the play Mother and Father Darling are attempting to teach their large family the importance of obedience and perseverance. While the girls are stuck doing laundry, the boys play with water guns, getting their clothes wet and causing all sorts of trouble in the neighborhood.

In the end, they all learn some important lessons about why we have rules and what it means to obey them. The children learn several Bible verses that help us understand what God has to say about being obedient.

Thanks, Linda, for allowing us to use your play!

COVER 2 COVER

Synopsis: A man enters a store named Cover 2 Cover and finds it to be anything but ordinary! People with problems call or come in, and "Bible Verses" are dispatched in answer to their concerns. The man learns how the Bible has applicable verses that help in our everyday lives.

In the skit, the "Bible Verses" are portrayed by teens who occasionally run on stage and shout out their assigned verses, in order to help someone in need! The finale calls for the cast to be onstage together saying Bible verses as a group.

The The Original Version was written for teens to do as a church skit for their families, and is really great! The The Short Version is essentially the same story, but involves fewer children and less memorization. It would be perfect to do at camp or in an open-air evangelistic outreach! And now try the Middle School version, specially written for 6th grade students to do for elementary age students.

No matter which version you choose, Cover 2 Cover is a fast-paced comedy and a great witness of God's faithfulness through His Word, The Bible.

NEW!! Thanks to some very nice folks in Brazil, who translated the script for me, you can download de Capa a Capa... which is Cover 2 Cover in Portuguese!

Muito obrigata! (Thanks, so much!)

TEACHER APPRECIATION

For Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day at your church, you may wish to use this church skit called: A Day in the Life of a Superhero!

SYNOPSIS:
Lisa is your typical Children’s Ministry staff person. She is having a typical day, except that things aren’t going well. One disappointing thing after another happens. Finally, when alone, she prays and asks God to help encourage her… just a little… to help her get through the day. Suddenly everything turns around. People start volunteering to help, parents call to encourage, and she finds out that a letter she was handed at the beginning of the skit holds a note from a child who has just accepted Christ as her Savior. The Pastor enters to sum up the spiritual realities, and everyone goes out for coffee. Just your typical day in the life of a superhero… or in this case, of a Children’s Ministry staff person.

This 5-7 minute skit for adults to do is a great tribute to the way our church workers go about dealing with the day to day difficulties which arise in their ministries. Just another Day in the Life of a Superhero!

A Note on Script Usage and Changes...

Let's say that you are interested in doing one of these church skits, but have a question as to whether or not you may change a few lines or add a character or two to help accommodate the needs of your group. The answer is "YES!" You are very welcome to do so. The only difference may be in how you give credit for who wrote the skit. Please keep reading...

If the changes you make are minor (adding a few lines, adding or subtracting a few characters, etc) then, as always, please just make a note in your printed program of the skit's author and its copyright date. (EX: "By Sharon Kay Chatwell, copyright 2017.")

However, if you make MAJOR CHANGES (adding or deleting a scene, adding a lot of new jokes, or changing the overall message of the skit) then please note in your printed program that the skit is "Based on the Original Skit by..." and give the author's name and the copyright date. (EX: "Based on the Original Skit by Sharon Kay Chatwell, copyright 2017.")

For more information, please see our official USE POLICY.

Additional Ideas...

If you've already looked at these skits and aren't finding just what you need, you might enjoy reviewing the skits and videos created by The Skit Guys. They have a nice website with lots of resources. You will have to pay a fee to use their videos, or to download their scripts, but their materials are funny, Biblically-based and usually spot-on. Enjoy!

On a Personal Note...

God bless you as you search for just the right Church Skit to use with your group. I think it's sort of like searching for the right pair of shoes... it has to be just right! I hope that you will find it here at Sunday School Center.

Let me re-emphasize that you are free to use these church skits as you see fit in your ministry. There is no fee or charge. If you have a printed program, please list the author's name and the date of copyright next to the name of the skit.

For more information... view our USE POLICY. Thanks!

Have fun with your skits! I hope that everything goes well with your performance! Or... as they used to say in Drama class... "Break a leg!"

With love in Christ,
Sharon
